Breitling Orbiter 3 Balloon

We have been involved in a number of different projects over the years including fabrication in Bristol and surrounding areas. However, the most memorable one we had the pleasure to get involved in was The Breitling Orbiter 3 around the world balloon attempt.

This was a very interesting project and extremely exciting to watch over for the 20 or so days it took to navigate the globe.

The company itself manufactured crucial flight control panelling which housed the onboard instrumentation for the crafts navigation.

It was nice to be asked to participate in such a project and to be involved in such a great achievement of the first non-stop balloon to fly around the world.

Having worked with Cameron Balloons on the Breitling Orbiter 3 for the first non-stop round the world flight in 1999, we were pleased to be asked to work on the latest attempt to break the record in 2016.

Once again the team at Stockall engineering manufactured much of the aluminium panelling in the gondola that housed the balloon’s control systems including the flight communication and navigational instruments as you can see in the photograph to the left.

The balloon was piloted by a Russian adventurer Fedor Konyukhov and his successful flight set a new world record for a non-stop solo circumnavigation of the earth.  You can read more about the project and flight on the Cameron Balloons website.
